Lysefjord Trip Planner
Planning a kayak trip in Lysefjord? Use our practical trip planner, weather forecasts, and ferry schedules to map out a safe, seamless adventure.
Experience the silence of Lysefjord. From Forsand to Lysebotn, navigate the ancient waterways with premium gear and local expertise.
Explore the fjord with high-end equipment. We provide the gear and local knowledge; you provide the adventure.
Unlike standard rentals, our Paddling Trail system allows for linear adventures. Pick up your kayak in Forsand (or any of our four other locations), paddle the length of the fjord, and leave it at any of our 3 outposts. We handle the logistics you handle the paddle.
If you’re an experienced kayaker and have a 2-star certification (IPP2, BC2, EPP2, ACA2, or equivalent), we offer a variety of kayaks to suit your needs.
Important Note: To rent double kayaks, previous experience is required. For single kayaks, all renters must provide proof of valid 2-star certification. If you don’t hold a valid certification, we offer a 3-hour safety course. You can add that course in your rental.

“The freedom of not having to paddle back against the wind is a game changer for multi-day trips in the fjord!”
– Tuure M., Expedition Leader

Planning a kayak trip in Lysefjord? Use our practical trip planner, weather forecasts, and ferry schedules to map out a safe, seamless adventure.

Back in April last year, Kaya and I went on a short kayaking trip into Lysefjord. Two days. One night. Simple plan.
Before we left,

The kayak is the perfect watercraft for multi-day trips in Norwegian nature. Kayaks are quite sea-worthy, doesn’t make a sound, doesn’t pollute, can haul loads
We provide a versatile selection of single and double sea kayaks designed to accommodate all skill levels, from the reliable and stable Unplugged to the fast-tracking Endless for long-distance touring. For those paddling together, we offer the Esperanto double kayak, which provides excellent stability and storage capacity. All rentals include a paddle, a comfortable buoyancy aid (PFD), and a durable nylon sprayskirt to ensure a safe experience on the water.
Paddling a single sea kayak in Norwegian coastal waters requires a specific set of skills, especially concerning self-rescue and handling varied conditions. The Våttkort (or equivalent) is a national standard that verifies you have received professional training in these essential techniques. This is particularly important in our local fjords where the shoreline often consists of steep mountains, making it difficult to get to land except in a few specific locations. Our policy requires this certification to ensure your safety and to make sure you have the best, most enjoyable experience possible on the water.
For a double kayak, we require that both paddlers have been in a kayak before, are comfortable on the water, know how to swim, and can paddle effectively together. You should understand basic paddle strokes and feel confident in your ability to manage the kayak for the duration of your trip. Our staff may ask you a few questions about your experience to ensure the rental is a good fit.
Safety is our top priority. We constantly monitor weather forecasts. If we deem the conditions to be unsafe for paddling (e.g., high winds, thunderstorms), we will contact you to reschedule your rental or offer a full refund. We do not recommend paddling in high winds or thunderstorms.
Yes, we offer multi-day rentals for our single and double sea kayaks for experienced and properly equipped paddlers. Please contact us directly to discuss your plans, as multi-day trips require careful planning regarding routes, logistics, and camping equipment. For shorter, hourly rentals, we have self-service sit-on-top kayaks available at our base in Dørvika. Please note that these cannot be pre-booked.
