5-Day Guided Kayak Trip: Telemark Canal
Join us on our Telemark Canal adventure! We paddle the historic Telemark canal that has been used to transport the lumber from inland to the railway along the coast since 1861. Our journey starts from Dalen, where we will follow the path of the lumber, 93km, that leads all the way to the sea at Skien. Paddling on both lakes and rivers, the tour features beautiful beaches, caves, old stair water-locks and much more.
Kayak trip summary
Our journey starts from Dalen, where we will follow the path of the lumber, that takes us over three big lakes, Bandak, Kviteseidvatnet and Flåvatn before paddling the man-made canal. On the lakes, you will see the majestic scenery that Norway has to offer and get a chance to see some of Norway’s wild animals up close, as we silently paddle on the water. Paddling on the lakes will give you the true feeling of paddling on the fjords of Norway. The canal itself has six water-locks, all engineered and built in 1854-1861, we will use these locks to pass through the channel. When the weather allows it, we will stay at primitive camping spots with varying facilities.
